Experiencing Irish Life as it was 100 years ago! – Photo Diary

2016 is a huge year for Ireland as it marks the 100 year anniversary of the 1916 Rising. The Rising was the rebellion by the Irish republicans to end British rule in Ireland and it was one of the most important moments in Irish history.

This year RTE invited people to experience Irish life as it was 100 years ago (How cool is that?!). Today I had the chance to step back in time as O’Connell Street became the Edwardian thoroughfare that it once was  in 1915.  ‘Road to the Rising’ explores Ireland in the run up to the revolution, showcasing the way people dressed, the transport methods, the music, the food and the events of Easter week 1916, which ultimately shaped the Ireland we know and love today.

The sun was beaming down on Dublin as thousands of people took to O’Connell Street to enjoy the vintage displays, music performances, historians and speakers and much much more. It was such a fantastic day and I can’t wait to see what is in store for the official 100 year anniversary in 2016.
